SUMMARY


A Project Engineer at Smart Monkeys, Inc. is considered the primary technical point of contact for the client and is responsible of ensuring that systems & solutions are deployed and programmed according to the project scope. A major role is to provide controlled solutions for Audio/Visual/Lighting installations. This is a cutting-edge position that provides the opportunity to work on project of all sizes at sites all around the world.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide the company and its clients with Show Control solutions for Audio/Visual/Lighting installations.

  • Participate in the design, development, implementation and support of AV, Control and Network systems.

  • Develop custom equipment drivers, control methodologies & architectures, and custom GUI’s.

  • Plan and lead overall projects, systems testing & validation procedures, programming, and documentation.

  • Store, retrieve and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements.

  • Monitor control systems to ensure systems operate reliably and within established performance criteria.

  • Train end users and clients.

  • Provide After Sales technical support.

  • Balance multiple projects/assignments with alacrity while aggressively meeting deadlines and expectations.

  • Self-manage assignments and work autonomously when necessary.

  • Be highly collaborative and focused on sharing details routinely and consistently with team members.

  • Demonstrate a persistent optimism and ability to navigate challenges in a way that produces value, exceeds expectations, and promotes company success. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of the following:

  • Control Systems Programming and Operation (Node-RED, Medialon, Alcorn McBride, etc ...)

  • Scripting (Lua, JavaScript, Node.JS, SQL, etc...)

  • Networking Design, Deployment and Operation.

  • Q-SYS Audio & Control (certification preferred)

  • Video and Presentation Systems Programming and Operation (RealMotion, 7th Sense, Pixera, Disguise, Watchout, Touch Designer, etc...)

  • User Interface development (HTML a plus)
     

REQUIREMENT: Must be eligible to work in the US.

 

2 to 5 years of work experience within the Audio/Visual Industry is preferred. Otherwise, will depend on training, education, and personal achievements.

 

TRAINING / EDUCATION

 

  • Bachelors degree in one of the following preferred:

    • Computer Engineering

    • Electronics Engineering

    • Entertainment Technology

    • Theater

  • Experience in scripting/software development a plus.

  • Proven experience with electronic control systems and signal processing, familiarity with relays and Programmable Logic Controllers is a plus.

 

JOB TYPE

 

  • Full-Time Employee.

  • 90-day probationary period.

  • Job location: Orlando or Miami office OR home office in Las Vegas.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • Travel is to be expected on average 50% of the time due to the nature of the projects.

  • Onsite environment will vary for each project. Employee may be asked to wear protective gear on building sites.

  • Office environment at company premises.

 

COMPENSATION

 

  • Based on experience, USD per Annum paid on monthly basis.

  • 15 days PTO including sick, personal, and vacation; 20 days after 1 year.

  • Health, Dental, Vision and Life insurance.

  • Short term disability.

  • Retirement Plan after one year.

  • Workers Compensation.

  2.  SUMMARY

 

Smart Monkeys, leading provider of A/V & Show Control services, is looking for an experienced Audio-Visual Design Engineer to work on commercial AV projects. The ideal candidate will have at least 5-10 years of overall AV industry-related experience with at least the last 3 years as a Design Engineer.

 

  3.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Engage in client discovery sessions alongside sales, design, and engineering team.

  • Participate in project design meetings with clients, perform site surveys, create assessment reports.

  • Analyze user needs and requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.

  • Create AV and Control design packages composed of system CAD drawings, design narratives, programming specifications, performance specifications, and budget estimates for every phase of the projects (Concept, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents).

  • Communicate and coordinate technical design solutions with clients, installation teams, and creative teams.

  • Assist with technical oversight, network implementation, system configuration, red lines, as-built drawings, commissioning procedures, and design questions during integration and commissioning of systems.

  • Assist programmers with technical direction when developing user interfaces and control programs.

  • Assist account executives in the preparation of consultant specified bids and submittals.

 

  4.  QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Knowledge of advanced network design methods applied to AV systems (routing, VLANs, QoS, IGMP, PTP). 

  • Knowledge of Medialon, Q-SYS, Extron, Node-Red, Crestron or other control system architecture, programming, implementation, and testing. 

  • Knowledge of audio and video processing (Q-SYS, Barco E2, Analog Way Aquilon). 

  • Experience with AutoCAD or Vectorworks. 

  • Familiarity with MS Visio or OmniGraffle desired. 

  • Knowledge of media and presentation servers (7th Sense, Disguise, Green Hippo, Watchout) and generative engines (Touch Designer, Notch, Unreal) preferred. 

  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems preferred. 

  • Proficient in MS Office applications. 

  • Knowledge of programming/scripting languages (Lua, JavaScript…) a plus.

  • REQUIREMENT: Must be eligible to work in the US.

 

  5.  TRAINING / EDUCATION

 

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Engineering program or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience. 

  • A Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or CTS-I or CTS-D certification is a plus. 

  • 10 years of overall Audio-Visual commercial solution/services industry experience preferred. Otherwise, will depend on training, education, and personal achievements. 

  • At least 3 years of recent experience as a hands-on AV systems design engineer. 

  • Ability to write scope of work, design narrative, and other technical documents.

 

  6.  WORKING CONDITIONS

  7.  COMPENSATION
